General Guideline Principles for Prognosis
for workers compensation patients

The New York State workers compensation board has developed these guidelines to help physicians, podiatrists, and other healthcare professionals provide appropriate treatment for Prognosis.

These Workers Compensation Board guidelines are intended to assist healthcare professionals in making decisions regarding the appropriate level of care for their patients with ankle and foot disorders.

The guidelines are not a substitute for clinical judgement or professional experience. The ultimate decision regarding care must be made by the patient in consultation with his or her healthcare provider.

Prognosis of Occupational Work Related Asthma

Variable long-term effects of Occupational Asthma necessitate extensive follow-up. Even after avoiding further exposure to the causing substance, the symptoms and functional impairment of Occupational Asthma may last for many years. Patients with shorter hospital stays have the greatest outcomes. time since exposure began before symptoms appeared.

The likelihood of symptom improvement, symptom resolution, or preventing worsening is higher in workers who:

  • No additional contact with the causal agent

  • A diagnosis made with relatively normal lung function

  • A shorter disease duration.

Similar to non-Occupational Asthma , Occupational Asthma may develop into a chronic condition and require long-term medical care. While the hazards of continued exposure exist, patients with confirmed or suspected Occupational Asthma should be regularly monitored with pulmonary questionnaires and spirometry testing.

Patients with verified Occupational Asthma who have quit their jobs or don’t continue to pose a risk for asthmagen exposure should undergo routine monitoring as prescribed by their doctors.
